- Steroid Hormones4 ItemsThis section will be on the steroid hormones, their synthesis, secretion, transport, actions on different organs, mechanism of action of steroid hormones, abnormalities of steroid hormones and their management.
Hormones with Cell Surface Receptors
Signal Transduction by Water Soluble Hormones
Signal Transduction by Water soluble Hormones involves 5 basic steps:
- The Pathway that involves a specific receptor.
- The G Protein – link between 1 & 3.
- Enzyme.
- Second messenger.
- Protein kinase.
Protein Kinases & Protein Phosphatases
Signal transduction is regulated by Protein Kinases and Protein Phosphatases.
Kinases – phosphorylate.
Phosphatases – dephosphorylate.
The Proteins that are involved in the process are mostly Gene Regulatory Proteins such as Transcription Factors and Enzymes.
Once phosphorylated – it must be then dephosphorylated – why ?
Trimeric G Protein Cycle
G Proteins Family & Their Functions
cAMP Mediated Cascade
Signaling by GTP Binding
